日本人は昔から季節を大切にして暮らしてきました。

伝統的な暦では、季節の移り変わりや自然界の変化を、それぞれの時期の名前で表しています。

二十四節気と七十二候を学ぶことで、日本の細やかな季節の変化を紹介できるようになればと思います。

The traditional Japanese calendar marks the passing of the seasons and changes in the natural world through the names given to different times of year. 

二十四節気や七十二候は、英語にするといろいろな表し方があるようです。

『二十四節気』は、1年を約15日おきに24の季節に分けたもので、季節のうつろいを知ることができます。農業の目安にも使われていました。

二十四節気をさらに3つに分けたものが『七十二候』です。それぞれの期間は5〜6日で、生き物の現象にちなんで名付けられています。

The 24 solar terms that divide the Japanese season into 24 solar terms.

In ancient times the Japanese divided their year into 24 periods. This calendar was originally conceived to keep track of agricultural cycles.Each one given a name to depict the seasonal changes through the year, with each season lasting just 15 days.

Each season of the 24 solar terms was then divided again into three more, to create the 72 microseasons.

Each terms consists of five or six days, and are mostly named after biological phenomena corresponding to the micro-seasons.
