春から夏になる前の美しい季節『初夏 early summer 』を紹介する英文を紹介します。

Early summer is from late May to June.

初夏は5月下旬から6月にかけてです。

When it gets hot, we can find fireflies here and there in Japan. 

暑くなってくると、日本のあちらこちらで蛍（ホタル）が見られます。

Fireflies are well known for their fantastic glow at night.

蛍は、夜に幻想的に光ることでよく知られています。

On summer nights, people gather to see the glow of fireflies.

夏の夜、蛍の光を見るために人が集まります。

They like fresh air and fresh water.

蛍はきれいな空気や水を好みます。

Since ancient times the firefly was loved as a feature of early summer but as the water quality of the streams that the firefly larvae  live in gets dirtier and the waterside environment changes so the situation gets worse and it becomes more difficult to see fireflies.

昔から蛍は初夏の風物詩として親しまれていたが、いつしか幼虫のすむ清流が汚れたり水辺の環境が大きく変わってしまったことから、その姿をめったに見ることができなくなっている。

That is the hydrangea flower and known as the symbol of early summer in Japan.

あれは紫陽花の花で日本の初夏の風物詩として知られています。

Hydrangeas start blooming from June to July.

日本では、紫陽花は6月から7月にかけて咲きます。

The colored parts that look like petals are  sepals.

花びらのように見えるのは、花びらではなくて萼です。

Blue and purple hydrangea express callousness, intelligent, mysterious, enduring love. Red and pink hydrangeas are the symbol of energetic women and intense passion.

In Japan, May is the season for rice planting.

5月と言えば田植えの季節です。

There are lots of rice fields in the countryside.

田舎には田んぼがたくさんあります。

初夏になると田んぼにカエルがいっぱいいます。

When it becomes early summer, there are lots of frogs in the rice fields.
